This PR could probably stand more testing, but I think it's pretty solid. This brings the framework up to date to Laravel 12. Obviously, this also requires a new minimum PHP version of 8.2. In addition, I added Pest 4, including some quick basic tests.
This PR also contains the changes from my previous PR #251
