Photini was born out of my frustration at not being able to find a metadata editor for Linux that I liked. I'd previously used Microsoft's "Pro Photo Tools" on Windows and liked it (not often I say that about a Microsoft product) but none of the Linux offerings I found was as easy to use. So I decided to write my own. I've written more about this decision on my blog, where I've also described how I chose the name Photini.
