<p>Below are some internship tips.</p>

<h3 id="Internet-in-developing-countries"><a href="#Internet-in-developing-countries">Internet in developing countries</a></h3>

<p>Mentors need to be prepared to work with interns who have internet issues. Outreachy interns in India, countries in Africa, and other developing nations often have slower internet or pay for the amount of data they use.</p>

<p>Mentors have been able to work around internet issues in the past. Our tips are:</p>

<ul>
<li>Assume the intern is using mobile data for their internet.</li>
<li>Assume the internet plan requires the intern to pay for the amount of data they use -- most interns don't have an unlimited internet data plan.</li>
<li>Ask the intern whether they prefer video calls, phone calls, or text chat for your weekly meetings.</li>
<li>Avoid asking the intern to download large amounts of data or install tools multiple times.</li>
<li>Be prepared for internet outages - help the intern prepare to work offline for a few days if their internet goes down.</li>
<li>Be flexible - if internet problems cause issues, you may need to work with your intern to modify their project plan.</li>
<li>It's not necessary to ask for an internship extension if the intern misses a few days of work.</li>
<li>If an intern is offline for a week or more, you should ask for an internship extension.</li>
