The National Catalogue of Repositories (Národní katalog repozitářů, NKR) is a modular system whose primary purpose is to register data repositories emerging within the National Data Infrastructure. Additional types of repositories may be included in the future.

The scope of the collected data is quite broad: from the technical solution used to metadata schemas and controlled vocabularies employed by each of the repositories. The complete NKR metadata schema, based on re3data and extended to meet the specific needs of the National Data Infrastructure, is available at NKR-schema (currently in version 0.2). Please submit your suggestions for changes to the schema as github issues.

Work is currently underway to make the NKR core accessible – i.e., the repository registration module, which is based on the open-source Cordra software. The NKR will track repositories throughout their entire life cycle. Records in the NKR are to be entered and maintained directly by repository administrators and curators. Each repository will be assigned a persistent Handle identifier, which is integrated into the selected technical solution. For interoperability purposes, this identifier will also be assigned to related objects (e.g., FAIR implementation profiles) and linked to the repository record.

A module for visualizing controlled vocabularies, built on the open-source tool SKOSMOS, is also under development.

The NKR is being implemented as part of the CARDS project, managed by the National Library of Technology, Prague.
